Introduction to guests
Long Diyong, doctor of literature, postdoctor of literature and art, has been editor of academic journals for a long time. Now he is professor and doctoral supervisor of Southeast University, Dean of art college, deputy director of visual image research base of Chinese nation, vice chairman and Secretary General of narrative branch of Chinese and foreign literary theory society. He was awarded the titles of "333 project" young and middle-aged leading talents in Jiangsu Province, "one hundred and ten million talents in the new century" in Jiangxi Province, "four talents in one batch" in Jiangxi Province, and "famous cultural experts in Jiangxi Province". He is mainly engaged in the research of art theory, narratology and iconology, and has won one second prize of excellent achievements in Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of education, two first prizes at the provincial level and six second prizes; presided over four national social science fund projects, provincial and ministerial key projects, etc.; his monograph "spatial narrative research" was selected into the "national philosophy and social science achievements library"; in a & amp; More than 100 academic papers have been published in journals such as HCI and CSSCI, and many of them have been reprinted in selected journals such as Xinhua digest and China Social Sciences digest. In 2017, he was selected into the "list of the most influential scholars in Chinese philosophy and Social Sciences".

With a long history and profound connotation
Southeast University has a long tradition of art education and theoretical research. As early as the Liangjiang Normal school stage, President Li Ruiqing began to set up the first Art Department of normal school in our school - painting and handcraft (1906), which started the modern art education in our country and trained the first generation of teachers of art education in our country. In 1994, Southeast University established the art department and modern art design research center; in 1996, under the leadership of Professor Zhang Daoyi, Southeast University took the lead in setting up the master's degree authorization point of Art Science in China, making the art discipline become a formal discipline system and enter the national academic subject record, and began to cultivate specialized talents of art theory; in 1997, Southeast University established the first art in China The authorized point of doctor's degree of Arts has further improved the art science and started to cultivate high-end talents of art theory in the whole country. In 2003, the post doctoral mobile station of art science was established, which is the first batch of post doctoral mobile stations in the whole country. Since 2004, the art discipline of Southeast University has been the National 985 project and 211 project phase II-III construction discipline. In 2007, it was added as a national key discipline It is the only national key discipline of this discipline; in the first and second round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of education, the art discipline of Southeast University has always been in the top three position in the country; in the third and fourth round of discipline evaluation, the art theory discipline of Southeast University ranks first in the country and obtains a + level. In 2017, it was successfully selected into the national "double first-class" construction discipline.
In the history of Southeast University, there have been many art masters successively, such as Li Shutong, music educator, Wu Mei, drama research and educator, Zong Baihua, aesthetic master, Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong, LV Fengzi, Chen Zhifo, Fu Baoshi, Wu Zuoren, Huang Junbi and so on. They have taught here and cultivated a large number of excellent talents for the country. The college has 3 professors as members of the discipline evaluation group of the degree committee of the State Council (1 of whom is the convener). The college also has a number of high-level talents such as the national ten thousand talents plan, the "four and one batch" talents of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and 333 talents of Jiangsu province.
In recent years, the Faculty of Art College of Southeast University has presided over 48 projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, including 2 major projects and 8 key projects. It has won more than 10 awards for outstanding achievements in scientific research of institutions of higher learning of the Ministry of education, 21 awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences of Jiangsu Province, published more than 150 kinds of academic works, more than 30 kinds of teaching materials, published more than 2000 academic papers, including more than 750 CSSCI journal papers.
Complete disciplines and distinctive features
In September 2006, Southeast University established an art college on the basis of the former art department and art communication department. At present, the art college is composed of art theory department, animation department, art department and design department. In addition, it has academic research institutions such as China Art International Communication Strategy Collaborative Innovation Center, cultural development strategic planning research center, art anthropology and Sociology Research Institute, Chinese Painting Research Institute, opera novel Research Institute, etc.
At present, the art college has the post doctoral station of the first level discipline of art theory, the doctoral degree authorization point of the first level discipline of art theory, the master's degree authorization point of the three first level disciplines of art theory, art and design, and the three majors of product design, art and animation. In 2018, the undergraduate major of art history theory was approved by the Ministry of education for the record, and the undergraduate enrollment of art history theory will start in 2020.
In a word, in the long-term development process, the Art College of Southeast University has formed a discipline development and talent training mode based on art and design and led by art theory, which can be summarized as: complete disciplines and distinctive features.
In addition, in 2018, the Guqin inheritance hosted by art college was listed as the first batch of Chinese excellent traditional culture inheritance bases by the Ministry of education; in 2020, Southeast University was approved as the first National Liberal Arts think tank - Chinese national visual image research base, and art college is also one of the two major colleges.

How to read
Professor Long: there is a way in the book mountain. The way is the way.
（1） To read (a sense of problem) with a sense of problem as a guide
Problem awareness is the starting point and end point of reading: when you pick up a book and start reading, you should first think about what problems the book is going to solve and how the author of the book is going to solve this one or several problems. Only when we find problems can we form a network of knowledge and ideas in reading. This requires students to form their own problems on the one hand, and on the other hand to restore the author's problems.
（2） Object determination method (object awareness)
President long mainly divides books into imaginative works (novels, poems, etc.) and argumentative works (various academic papers and Monographs), among which there are several different reading principles:
1. Imaginative works must be read as a whole to grasp its overall structure; argumentative works can be selected for reading. As far as imaginative literary works are concerned, without reading the complete works, we can't understand the author's intention and the features of the works; but as far as scientific or philosophical works are concerned, students can find the parts closely related to our research direction for key reading.
2. To fully understand argumentative works, we are often required to read other works about the same issue by the same author or different authors, while imaginative literary works do not have such requirements, because each literary work is completely independent and forms a complete world.
3. To understand argumentative works, students can grasp the key terms proposed by the author, which is the so-called "key words" method prevailing today. Because the language of imaginative works focuses on metaphor, symbolism and other rhetorical devices and context, it is necessary to read them as a whole rather than as a decomposition.
（3） To write (a sense of writing) in addition to reading
After reading a book, you'd better write a reading essay on your reading experience or experience, which is an important way to refine your thinking, train your thinking, and improve your scientific research and writing ability.
President long loved reading this kind of well written reading essays when he was young. Sanlian bookstore once published a set of "reading essays", which is a model of this kind of reading essays. The Dean once loved to write such works, and published a collection of essays entitled "looking for poetry". With the training of writing this kind of reading essays, there will be a good foundation for writing papers in the future.
（4） Reading field of vision should be wide, and do not paint the ground as a prison
The pattern of life should be big, so should reading. The interdisciplinary reading requires the students to establish the problem consciousness first, and then the classic consciousness. With these two kinds of consciousness, students will have standards and directions in the interdisciplinary reading. The "spatial narratology" of President Long's research is almost inspired by interdisciplinary reading.

01 the pattern should be large
What kind of knowledge a person can finally achieve is related to his pattern. I always believe that only in the fertile soil can we produce truly beautiful and truly bright flowers. Fertile soil is like a person's mind, a person's ideological realm, a person's knowledge pattern, must not be narrow, accumulation must be deep, on this basis, knowledge can stand, can stand the test of time.
02 problems need to be identified
The first step in learning is to find the right problem. If we don't find the right problem, even if we collect more materials and discuss them fully, the value will be greatly reduced. The topic selection of doctoral thesis and master's thesis must be valuable, otherwise the first step is not well done. After several years of reading, the so-called research itself has no value.
03 proper method
Students need to attach importance to the combination of theory and literature, and make a statement when writing books. Therefore, they need to have philosophy, theoretical height, and no empty argument. All views or ideas should be put forward on a basis.
After finding out the real academic problems, we should try our best to combine the Chinese and western, ancient and modern, macro and micro, whether we adopt the way of "I annotate the six classics" or "six classics annotate me". Only such research can stand the scrutiny and have the real explanatory power and vitality.

Q: Since 2020, our art college is about to open art history major. Would you like to ask Dean long to talk about the training mode of undergraduate art history major students?
Professor Long: at present, there is no undergraduate enrollment of art theory in East University Art College. In 2018, the college will submit the report on the enrollment of art history undergraduates to the school, and will officially start the enrollment of art history undergraduates in September 2020. The cultivation mode of art history major undergraduates can be summed up as 12 words: wide caliber, thick foundation, ability and practice. Broad caliber refers to the wide range of knowledge; thick foundation refers to the deep theoretical foundation that must be laid in the four-year study; emphasis on ability refers to the ability of scientific research and hands-on ability of students; understanding practice refers to that we can not stay in the art theory and history theory, but also will set up corresponding courses in the art practice for training.
Q: Sometimes our students are passive when they accept knowledge. Do you have any suggestions on how to find the balance between theory and technology practice?
