Nano restoration of silicone oil in cultural relic protection
In the restoration of the general picture of the Palace Museum's Kuqin Zhai, the silicone oil nano lotion showed a unique protective effect. A repair agent with a particle size of 80nm was developed by combining octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) with fluorocarbon surfactants. This structure can penetrate micro cracks of 0.3 μ m and form a Si-O-Si cross-linked network on the surface of cultural relics.
Infrared spectroscopy analysis shows that the bonding strength between the repaired painting pigment layer and the substrate has increased by three times. More noteworthy is that the photostability of silicone oil enables it to block 98% of ultraviolet radiation (280-400nm) while maintaining breathability (water vapor transmission rate of 12g/m ² · 24h). In the simulated restoration of Dunhuang murals, the fading rate in the area treated with silicone oil was reduced by 82% compared to the untreated area, and no organic residue was found.
