Symptoms of rumen expansion in cattle
Soon after the cattle feed on the easily fermented forage, the left noise part expanded rapidly, and the height of the expansion could exceed the spine. The diseased cattle are suffering and uneasy. They look back at their abdomen and lift their hind legs to kick their abdomen from time to time. Appetite, rumination and belching are completely stopped and breathing is difficult. In serious cases, the mouth is opened, the tongue is extended, the breath and heartbeat are accelerated, the conjunctiva is congested, the mouth color is dark, walking and swinging, standing unsteadily, once falling down, the distention is more serious. If the emergency rescue is not carried out, the sick cattle may die of suffocation due to dyspnea and lack of oxygen.
The cause of rumen expansion in cattle
1. Feed a large number of young and juicy grass. It is generally believed that legumes, such as fresh alfalfa, sweet clover, astragalus, pea vine, etc.
2. Feed grass after rain or frost dew. We need high quality healthy calves.
3. Rotten and fermented silage and moldy hay.
4. Secondary to esophageal obstruction, anterior gastric relaxation, traumatic gastroenteritis and peritonitis.
Prevention of rumen expansion in cattle
1. When the house feeding is changed to grazing, some hay or roughage should be fed first.
2. Properly control the grazing time in the place where the young grass is flourishing and in the frost and dew soaked grassland.
3. Strictly prevent cattle from eating too much or greedy for young and juicy bean forage.
Treatment of rumen expansion in cattle
1. There are two methods to remove gas from rumen of cattle. One is to insert the gastric catheter into the rumen, and then pump the catheter back and forth to induce the gas in the stomach to be discharged. The other is to perform the rumen puncture, that is, at the highest point of the expansion part of the left noise, after disinfecting with tincture of iodine, use the trocar to quickly penetrate and slowly deflate.
2. To prevent the rumen content from continuing to ferment and produce gas to slightly inflated cattle, we can take fermenting agents, such as 15-20 g of fish tallow or 30 ml of turpentine. For gastric foam rumen, 250 ml of Sichuan soybean oil, peanut sham and cottonseed oil can be used to irrigate sick cattle. It has good defoaming effect and can also be used as antifoaming agent, such as polymerized methyl silicone oil or swelling tablets 30~60 tablets.
3. If the rumen fermentation content is excluded, the sick cattle can be given cathartic, such as 400-500g sodium sulfate and 800-1000ML castor oil.
