School of public health of Southeast University, founded in May 1976, was born in the Department of health of Nanjing Railway Medical College, the former Medical College of Central University. In April 2000, after Nanjing Railway Medical College and Southeast University merged, the college, adhering to the concept of "stop at the best" of East University for one hundred years, gave full play to the resource advantages of Southeast University, which is mainly based on industry and multi-disciplinary integration, and actively explored the development path of "characteristic medicine" with combination of medicine and industry and high precision. The school of public health is the dominant discipline of medicine and Life Science in Southeast University, and one of the major contributing disciplines of the top 1% disciplines in the world in ESI International discipline ranking of Southeast University (the contribution of social science is ranked second, the contribution of pharmacology and toxicology is ranked third, the contribution of clinical medicine is ranked third, and the contribution of biology and biochemistry is ranked fifth). In 2012, the first level discipline of "public health and preventive medicine" ranked seventh in the national first level discipline evaluation rankings of universities and scientific research institutes organized by the Ministry of education. The college now has two undergraduate majors: preventive medicine and labor and social security (medical insurance). The preventive medicine specialty has the first level discipline doctor's point and the first level discipline master's point of public health and preventive medicine, the post doctoral research flow station of public health and preventive medicine, the first level discipline key discipline of Jiangsu Province, and also one of the first batch of units approved by the Ministry of education to carry out the master's degree of public health (MPH) training. The major of labor and social security (medical insurance direction) was established in 1995. It is the first major to set up the medical insurance direction in China, and it is a brand characteristic major that is mainly constructed in Jiangsu Province.

The college has more than 6000 square meters of teaching and scientific research rooms, with teaching and experiment center, computer center, analysis and testing center and SPF animal laboratory, as well as Key Laboratory of Ministry of education of "Environmental Medicine Engineering", Key Laboratory of biomaterials and devices of Jiangsu Province, HIV testing center of Ministry of Railways and health functional food testing center of Ministry of health. In addition, the "135" Key Laboratory of Engineering epidemiology in Jiangsu Province was jointly established with CDC of Jiangsu Province. The college is affiliated to the president of Jiangsu Environmental Mutagen Society.

The college focuses on the major public health issues of national and regional economic and social development, gives full play to the disciplinary advantages of the combination of medicine and industry, and actively carries out scientific research, focusing on the formation of stable research directions in the areas of environment and health, nano toxicology, water environment governance in Taihu Lake, healthy diet intervention, major infectious diseases prevention and control, and health policy research. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial level and international cooperation projects, with scientific research funding of more than 60 million yuan, published more than 250 high-level academic papers such as SCI and EI, published and authorized about 30 patents, and won 11 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards.

The college has set up experimental teaching center, public health emergency training center, virtual simulation experiment platform, SRTP innovation experiment platform. It has built 35 practice bases with provincial and municipal health supervision institutions and disease control centers, commercial insurance companies and government social security departments in Shanghai, Shandong, Jiangsu, Xinjiang and Tibet, providing for high-level personnel training and scientific research Platform support. (1) Preventive medicine (Five-year System)
It mainly cultivates the public health and preventive medicine compound leading talents with profound humanistic background and noble professional ethics, solid professional foundation and independent thinking ability, bold innovation and practice, good team cooperation and global vision. A bachelor's degree in medicine may be awarded upon graduation.

(2) Labor and social security major (Four-year system)
It mainly trains compound financial talents with professional knowledge of insurance, management, economics, finance, clinical medicine, etc., and with the knowledge and practical work ability required for medical insurance and life insurance. Bachelor's degree in management can be awarded after graduation.
