On the afternoon of April 10, a special press conference was held in Nanjing. The results of "international consultation on Urban Design in the core area of Zidong District in Nanjing" were announced. The scheme of Southeast University Architectural Design Research Institute Co., Ltd. led by Academician Wang Jianguo and Professor Han Dongqing won.

Speeding up the rise of the Purple East region is an important plan for Nanjing to implement the important directive spirit of general secretary Xi Jinping on optimizing the regional development layout and promoting regional coordinated development, integrating into the Yangtze River Delta integration strategy, and basing on city characteristics, energy level upgrading and transformation development. In September 2019, Nanjing municipal government selected 7 shortlisted units (including 5 consortia led by overseas institutions and 2 domestic institutions) from 74 applicants and 25 bidders through global open bidding, all of which have strong comprehensive strength. In December 2019, 9 well-known experts in planning, construction and other fields from home and abroad voted 2 teams from 7 shortlisted units to enter the next round of optimization campaign. After more than two months of deepening and improving the design, on March 28, 2020, the review expert group voted to finally determine that the urban design of the core area of Zidong will be undertaken by the Southeast University team.

Design background, goal and concept
The core area of Zidong area is located in the middle of Zidong area. It is about 22 square kilometers from Longwangshan ridge line in the north, Huning Expressway in the south, planning qixianghe in the East and Raoyue Expressway in the West. Under the background of national strategies such as Yangtze River economic belt and Yangtze River Delta integration, the development of Zidong region will become a new highland for the implementation of national strategy, and the center of urbanization of Ningzhen and Yangzi. The core area of Zidong district will assume the function of comprehensive service center in the east of Nanjing City, with "innovative research and development, high-end business affairs, cultural creativity, education and medical care" as the leading function, and radiate to Zhenjiang and Yangzhou to the East.

A bird's-eye view of the core area from the east to the West Southeast University team proposed the urban design plan of the core area of the Zidong area, with the overall design goal of "mountains, rivers, Zidong, livable environment, innovation of famous cities, wisdom of gathering places", with the design concept of establishing the regional "hub" for the urbanization development of Ningzhen, improving the infrastructure construction and improving the spatial environment by gathering and integrating the surrounding ecological, industrial, landscape and other resources Environmental quality, focusing on the features of the urban core area in the hilly area of the south of the Yangtze River, and radiating the surrounding development, the core area of Zidong will be committed to becoming a model of open and shared regional coordinated development; a model of organic urban growth with ecological priority; a model of natural and artificial yoke inheritance and innovation; a model of industrial and urban integration and development driven by innovation; a model of rural and urban livability High quality living environment model led by science and technology!
Urban design conforms to the natural characteristics of rolling hills, mountains, rivers, forests and fields in the core area, and establishes the spatial structure of "one belt, two centers, three rings and three plates". One vein: Central Green vein; one belt: caz central vitality belt; two hearts: mengbei comprehensive service center, Dongliu comprehensive service center; three rings: landscape Avenue ring, urban life ring, peripheral water green ring; three plates: Western plate, Southeast plate, northern plate.
As the "hub" of the region, the core area of Zidong will become the core of the region in six aspects: ecology, industry, transportation, landscape, place and wisdom.

The competition of design team shows the new achievements of urban design multidisciplinary collaborative innovation. The design team integrates the research and design forces of the interdisciplinary integration of Architectural Design Institute and Architectural College of Southeast University, including the overall urban design group of the core area, two key area design groups (central business area and green open area), and five special research groups of ecology, industry, landscape, transportation and digital computing.

The urban design scheme will be publicized in Nanjing Planning and construction exhibition hall for one month from April 10, and the opinions of Nanjing citizens, Zhenjiang and Yangzhou citizens will be widely consulted, so as to establish the basis for further optimization and deepening of the scheme and the preparation of relevant legal planning.
