Professor you Yumeng, executive dean of Wu Jianxiong College of Southeast University, Professor of School of chemical engineering. The research work is mainly focused on the molecular ferroelectric materials with excellent piezoelectric and photoelectric properties. Since returning to China in 2014, he has published more than 20 papers of the first author or corresponding author, including 2 papers of science, 6 papers of J. am. Chem. SOC., 3 papers of adv. mater., 1 paper of angel. Chem. Int. ed., 1 paper of Phys. Rev. Lett., 2 papers of NAT. Commun., 1 paper of NAT. Phys., etc. In the past five years, you Yumeng has presided over a series of national, provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects, and obtained support from Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund and Jiangsu Province's entrepreneurship and innovation talents. In 2017, you Yumeng was selected as the "young Yangtze River Scholar" of the Ministry of education, and supported by the "outstanding youth fund" of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2019. During his time in Southeast University, his team published 34 SCI papers in the past five years, with a total of more than 2000 citations, including two science papers and the first nature.phys of Southeast University. President you started from the nature of dielectrics and reviewed the research process of ferroelectric materials. He mainly introduced the development process of molecular ferroelectrics research in Southeast University for more than ten years.
Ferroelectrics is a special functional material, which is widely used in national defense, aerospace, communications and other fields. With the development of technology, the manufacture of lighter, thinner, more sensitive and more environmentally friendly ferroelectric materials has become a research hotspot. In 2006, Professor Xiong rengen established the research center of ordered Matter Science in Southeast University, and began to systematically study the design and synthesis of molecular ferroelectric materials in China. Professor Xiong rengen's team is committed to the development of new molecular based ferroelectric materials with light weight, flexibility, rich functions, non-toxic and environmental protection, in order to become a useful supplement to the traditional inorganic ferroelectric ceramics. Because of the particularity of molecular materials in composition and structure, it has been considered that it is an impossible dream to realize the performance of inorganic ceramics in molecular system. Until 2013, Professor Xiong rengen developed a new molecular ferroelectric material, diisopropylamine bromide (dipab). This is the first time that molecular materials can keep pace with inorganic materials in ferroelectric properties in the past hundred years, marking that China's molecular ferroelectric research has reached the level of parallel with international top teams.
In 2014, president you formally joined the "research center of orderly material science", and his interdisciplinary research background also injected fresh blood into the team. In 2017, the team synthesized a new type of molecular piezoelectric materials, whose piezoelectric coefficient reached or even surpassed the traditional one-component inorganic ceramic barium titanate. In 2018, the team developed the world's first non-metallic Perovskite Ferroelectric Material and published the third science paper. Its excellent performance has attracted wide attention of the international academic community. The results were reported on the websites of many professional academic institutions, including the IOP, AAAs and ACS. The above achievements represent that China's molecular ferroelectrics research has reached the world-class leading level.
In 2017, relying on the "ordered material science research center", Jiangsu provincial "molecular ferroelectric science and application" key laboratory was established. And in 2019, with the special support of "top ten scientific and technological issues" of Southeast University, the special academic zone of "International Molecular ferroelectric science and Application Research Institute" was established. After more than ten years of hard exploration, the outstanding scholars of the team have made the breakthrough of "from zero to one" in the international research of molecular ferroelectrics in China. At present, the team has published four science papers and more than 50 papers in other top international journals, and has developed nearly 100 kinds of new molecular materials, ranking first in the world in the research on the key properties of molecular ferroelectric materials, and maintaining the international leading position in the research of related fields.

Q: Could you please talk about the next step of "academy system" of Wu Jianxiong college? What's the "academy system" in your mind?
Professor you: we always hope to build Jianxiong academy into a platform for gathering and exchanging elite students, high-end tutors, management backbones and outstanding scholars outside the University. We plan to invite famous masters in the field of higher engineering technology as honorary Dean and Dean of "Jianxiong academy"; organize college tutors and professional tutors to guide students' scientific research life and life direction; in addition, the "Jianxiong academy" communication space project located at the bottom of the eight buildings in Taoyuan has been basically completed, with modern decoration design, and will become a student branch after completion Research, discussion, extracurricular activities and leisure are good places. This is also the first exchange space of the Academy in the campus of Dongda.
In terms of the development of the Academy, first of all, I just mentioned the improvement of the management structure including the appointment of the dean. Secondly, the Academy implements the double tutor system. Each Wu college student can contact many college tutors during his study in the Academy, and choose the professional master who will eventually guide his study. Q: It's reported that Mr. you likes drawing very much. What's the relationship between humanity and Science in your mind?
Professor you: in fact, my painting is completely due to my interest, and I have not received professional training. I think the students of science and engineering must have basic humanistic quality, not to do science can only have cold logical thinking. AI's computing power far exceeds that of human brain, and where human beings surpass machines is our perceptual thinking, which is sometimes the source of innovation. In addition to the regular formula deduction, a little rebellion, sentiment or sadness will bring you infinite reverie, infinite possibility, and then ideological breakthrough. Learning a musical instrument, reading a little history and cultivating an interest can give yourself a chance to relax and add some meaning to the leisure life besides the heavy scientific research. So I hope the students of science and engineering don't neglect the humanities. In addition, I also recommend humanities students to read some popular science books in their spare time, because many times the development of human civilization and art, such as sculpture and music, is also based on scientific breakthroughs, and the understanding of science and technology will help us to carry out research in history and art.
Q: As a doctoral student who just returned to school, the efficiency of home-based research work is very low these days, which also disrupts the original experimental plan, so he is very anxious. Would you like to hear what you have learned from your scientific research during this period of time? Is there any tips you can share with you?
Professor you: because a lot of our work needs to be done in the laboratory, our progress during this period is also affected by the epidemic. But I think it's a good opportunity for me to find out and fill in the missing books and lessons that I didn't have time to read or take before. Especially in this period of time, I found that the network resources are very rich. There are many courses carefully prepared by MOOC and national famous teachers, so if you can't enter the laboratory for the time being, you can enrich this period of time by reading books, listening to lectures and supplementing basic knowledge. In addition, I think this is also a good opportunity to mine previous work and sort out previous experimental data. Sometimes when the experiment is finished, the paper is published at the first time. Maybe the small achievements buried under the advanced achievements are ignored at that time. In fact, the information and discovery contained in a data is far more than a completed paper, so we can continue to mine. If you still have enough time, you can learn another foreign language, such as Japanese and German, to improve your humanistic quality.
