Professor Liu Chengyu, vice president (chair), professor and doctoral supervisor of the school of Instrument Science and engineering, Southeast University, and director of Dongda Lenovo wearable heart sleep emotion intelligent monitoring joint laboratory. President Liu Chengyu was born in 1982 in Yucheng, Shandong Province. From December 2010 to July 2017, President Liu successively engaged in postdoctoral research at Shandong University, Newcastle University in the UK and Emory University in the United States, served as one of the 10 members of the journal Committee of the world biomedical Federation (IFMBE), the first domestic scholar of the committee, chairman of the Organizing Committee of China's first physiological signal challenge, member of the technical committee of the World Congress of Cardiology, and international He is a lifelong member of the society of electrocardiology, a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and a member of the youth working committee of the Chinese society of biomedical engineering. President Liu, as the principal, presided over over more than 10 topics such as NSFC, concluded 2 National 863 topics as core technicians, participated in 2 NIH topics in the United States and 1 EPSRC topic in the British Engineering and Natural Science Research Council as postdoctoral researchers. Since 2011, he has published more than 180 academic papers, including more than 100 SCI journal papers and 8 chapters of academic works. At present, he has applied for and authorized more than 20 Chinese invention patents and one PCT international invention patent. In 2018, he won the champion of the innovation application group and the runner up of the standard group in the international competition of Shenzhen medical and health big data innovation application (150 + teams participated in the competition); in 2017, he won the title of the only "young scientist" selected by Lenovo; in 2017, he won the world's largest open source physiological data platform MIT "Outstanding contribution award" awarded by PhysioNet; second prize of technological invention of Shandong Province (No. 3) in 2016; physical of Royal Physical Society twice in 2012 and 2017 In 2019, he won the first prize in the 20th global physiological measurement challenge competition and the science and technology progress award of China Computer Society (CCF). The measurement and control technology and instrument major of the Institute of instrumentation was founded in 1960, which is one of the traditional advantageous disciplines of Southeast University. The major of Instrument Science and technology was first set up by Tianjin University and Zhejiang University in 1951. After that, many domestic universities have set up the major of detection, measurement and test around the relevant industries according to their own development needs. After more than 40 years of development, it was merged into the major of measurement and control technology and instrument in 1998, belonging to the first level discipline of Instrument Science and technology. In the new era, with the arrival of the new technological revolution, the discipline of Instrument Science and technology gradually began to develop in the direction of precision and intelligence.
At present, the Institute has one teaching experiment center and six research institutes, four provincial and ministerial scientific research bases, and three national platforms. Its first level discipline of Instrument Science and technology was rated as a - in the 2017 fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of education, ranking fourth in parallel in China. It is the leader of 334 domestic universities that set up instrument specialty. In recent years, it has played a leading role in the new era of intelligence, won many national awards, and vigorously promoted the field of intelligence by applying for the new specialty of "intelligent perception Engineering".

President Liu also further elaborated the subject connotation of Instrument Science and technology in combination with the existing two undergraduate majors of the college.
The subject connotation of Instrument Science and technology is a science and technology subject that specializes in the research, development, manufacture and application of various instruments, so as to extend people's sense, thinking and physical organs. It is a combination of AI, cybernetics, information theory, system theory and other disciplines, with the characteristics of cross cutting, cutting-edge, basic and practical.
"Measurement and control" is one of the key words of the instrument discipline. President Liu quoted Chairman Mao's poem "you can go up to the sky to look at the moon, and you can catch turtles in five oceans". Combined with some examples of space exploration and deep-sea exploration, he elaborated the core of the discipline. Measurement is the key and foundation of information technology. Only when "measurement" and "control" are integrated and adapted to "communication" and "machinery", can the technology be put in and out freely.
"Perception" is another key word of instrument discipline. The new round of scientific and technological revolution has shown the remarkable characteristics of "intelligence + interconnection". Internet of things, machine vision, etc. have broadened the scope and width of "sense", AI, edge computing, cloud computing, etc. have enhanced the depth of "knowledge". As a multi-disciplinary technology intensive specialty, instrument specialty provides the source for Internet of things Sensors also provide source data for AI. Intelligent perception, the interconnection of all things, has penetrated into all aspects of life. President Liu illustrated the importance of perceptual engineering in the discipline of Instrument Science and technology from five aspects, such as clothing, food, housing, transportation, etc.
The development of disciplinary advantages and the emergence of heroes in Southeast China
——Outstanding alumni of Instrument Science and technology
Many outstanding alumni have been born in the disciplines related to instrument science and technology of Southeast University. In the live broadcast, President Liu mainly introduced two alumni, Shen Xiangyang and Fang Jiancheng.
Professor Shen Xiangyang was admitted to the automatic control department of Nanjing Institute of Technology (predecessor of Southeast University) at the age of 14 in 1980. Now he is a double professor of Tsinghua University. Professor Fang Jiancheng studied for a Ph.D. in precision instruments and machinery at Southeast University in 1996, and was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015. He is now the executive vice president of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The majors that the two alumni have experienced cover electronics, control, communication, robotics and other aspects. It is under the infiltration and influence of cybernetics, information theory and system theory, and under the cross integration of multi professional directions, that they have made remarkable achievements in their fields.
President Liu said that he hoped that the majority of students could take the two alumni as a model, actively explore the connotation and core technology of the instrument discipline, and make innovative achievements in the new era with their own unique views. Once again, he quoted Chairman Mao's poem: "you can go up to the sky to look at the moon, catch turtles in five oceans, talk and laugh and sing. Nothing is difficult in the world, as long as we are willing to climb. "As a scientific researcher, we should seriously think about what kind of person we want to be. ——Personal experience sharing of president Liu Chengyu
Liu studied biomedical engineering in Shandong University, and then went to Newcastle University in the UK and Emory University in the us to study for postdoctoral. He is now a professor and vice president of the school of Instrument Science in Southeast University. Finally, the president also shared with you some of his own insights and put forward some hopes:
1. Read more, books are the ladder of human progress. We should not only read professional knowledge, but also cultivate the spirit of mathematics and humanity;
2. Think from multiple perspectives. Different people have different levels of knowledge, value orientation and life experience. They often have different opinions in the face of the same thing. Think from other people's perspective, think from multiple perspectives, understand and respect others, and they will have less inner struggle;
3. We need to stick to it. We need to quote the words of President Lin Zhongqin of Shanghai Jiaotong University to encourage everyone: there is no shortcut in life, and we need to stick to it. In the initial stage, we should stick to the heart of honing, integrate into the environment, and realize transformation and upgrading as soon as possible; in the growth stage of our career, we should stick to the common heart, accumulate energy, break through the earth and become experts; in the time of personal success, we should stick to the heart of pursuing dreams, constantly surpass ourselves, and make contributions to the times;
4. To have dreams, we should pursue them with "cooperation", "courage" and "perseverance". Our journey is the sea of stars, but our journey is not just the sea of stars.

President Liu: first of all, thank you for remembering my speech at the opening ceremony of last semester. I can't talk about my ambitions. I remember sharing the theme of dream and sticking to it at that time. I remember that I dialectically talked about the relationship between dreams and reality: on the one hand, why dreams are so precious is because reality is too cruel; on the other hand, why reality is so cruel is because dreams are too fragile. Because of the time, I can't start this topic here.
