Water soluble silicone oil and non water soluble silicone oil: the watershed of formula compatibility
Water soluble silicone oil (such as PEG/PPG modified silicone oil) achieves infinite miscibility with water by introducing hydrophilic polyether segments, completely solving the residual problem of traditional silicone oil in cleaning products. Its low surface tension and easy to rinse properties make it a star ingredient in formulas such as shampoo and shower gel, especially suitable for oily hair and sensitive scalp. Non water soluble silicone oil (such as dimethyl silicone oil) requires emulsification technology to disperse in the aqueous phase due to its hydrophobicity, and is widely used in hair conditioners and hair masks to form a durable protective film. The compatibility difference between the two in the formula is significant: water-soluble silicone oil can be directly added to water-based systems, while non water-soluble silicone oil needs to be used in conjunction with emulsifiers. In addition, the heat resistance and chemical stability of water-soluble silicone oil are slightly lower than those of non water soluble silicone oil, but its advantages in cleaning products are irreplaceable.
