Hydroxysilicone oil: an innovative path from laboratory to industrialization
The industrial application of hydroxyl silicone oil began in the mid-20th century, and with the development of organosilicon chemistry, its synthesis process and application technology have continuously broken through. From the initial laboratory trials to the current large-scale production, hydroxy silicone oil has become an indispensable member of the silicone material family, driving technological innovation in multiple industries.

The evolutionary history of synthetic processes
The synthesis of hydroxyl silicone oil is mainly achieved through the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of dimethyl dichlorosilane. The early process had problems such as excessive by-products and low purity, which limited its application scope. In the 1970s, with the advancement of catalytic technology, the application of acidic catalysts (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid) and alkaline catalysts (such as potassium hydroxide) significantly improved reaction selectivity and product purity. In the 21st century, the concept of green chemistry has promoted the development of solvent-free and continuous synthesis processes. For example, using ionic liquids as catalysts can achieve efficient hydrolysis and condensation under mild conditions while reducing waste liquid emissions. In addition, through molecular distillation and supercritical extraction techniques, hydroxyl silicone oil can be further purified to meet the needs of high-end applications.

Molecular Design for Performance Regulation
The properties of hydroxyl silicone oil are closely related to its molecular weight, hydroxyl content, and terminal groups. By adjusting the synthesis conditions, customized production of products of different specifications can be achieved. For example, low molecular weight hydroxy silicone oil (viscosity 50-100 mPa · s) has excellent permeability and reactivity, making it suitable for rapid vulcanization of silicone rubber; High molecular weight hydroxy silicone oil (viscosity 1000-10000 mPa · s) has better film-forming properties and flexibility, and is commonly used in surface treatment and coating fields. In addition, by introducing functional groups such as epoxy and amino groups, hydroxyl silicone oil can be endowed with new properties. For example, epoxy modified hydroxyl silicone oil can be blended with epoxy resin to enhance the heat resistance and adhesion of composite materials.

Cross border integration of industrial applications
The industrial application of hydroxyl silicone oil has penetrated into multiple fields. In the electronics industry, as a key component of packaging materials and thermal conductive silicone grease, it ensures the stable operation of chips; In the textile industry, as a softener and antistatic agent, it enhances the added value of fabrics; In the construction industry, as an additive for sealants and waterproof coatings, it extends the service life of buildings. In recent years, with the rise of emerging industries such as new energy vehicles and 5G communication, the demand for hydroxyl silicone oil has continued to grow. For example, in lithium battery separator coating, hydroxyl silicone oil can enhance the thermal stability and electrolyte wettability of the separator, helping to improve battery performance.
