Silicone oil is triggering a silent revolution in the cooling system of heavy-duty trucks. Traditional mechanical fans will still operate at full speed under low temperature conditions, consuming 5% -8% of the engine's power output. The clutch using silicone oil viscous transmission controls the flow of silicone oil through temperature sensitive bimetallic plates, achieving intelligent adjustment of fan speed.
Experimental data shows that the Jiefang J6 heavy-duty truck equipped with a silicone oil clutch reduces fuel consumption by 1.2L per 100 kilometers at -20 ℃. This performance is attributed to the unique viscosity temperature characteristics of methyl silicone oil: its kinematic viscosity is 50mm ²/s at 40 ℃ and drops sharply to 8mm ²/s at 100 ℃, forming a precise temperature viscosity response curve. What is more noteworthy is that the compressibility of silicone oil enables it to withstand 3000 impact loads per minute without performance degradation, and this characteristic is being applied and verified in the thermal management system of new energy vehicles.
