Comparison and Characteristics Analysis of Methyl Silicone Oil and Other Common Silicone Oils
Methyl silicone oil, as the most basic type of silicone oil, has low surface tension, high lubricity, and chemical stability. Its applications cover multiple fields such as lubrication, insulation, and defoaming. Compared with cyclopentasiloxane, methyl silicone oil has a higher viscosity and is suitable for scenarios that require long-term lubrication, while cyclopentasiloxane has strong volatility and is more suitable for lightweight formulations. Modified silicone oil enhances its adsorption properties on specific substrates by introducing amino or polyether groups. For example, amino silicone oil performs well in textile softening finishing, while polyether modified silicone oil becomes a common ingredient in shampoo due to its water solubility. The introduction of phenyl substituents in high phenyl silicone oil enhances its high-temperature resistance and is commonly used for high-temperature lubrication and electronic component packaging, but its cost is significantly higher than that of methyl silicone oil. Fluorosilicone oil combines the oleophobicity of fluorocarbon compounds with the flexibility of siloxane, and its lubricating performance in extreme environments far exceeds that of traditional silicone oil. However, its high price limits its popularity. When choosing, it is necessary to balance performance and cost according to specific needs.
