Nano scale application of silicone oil defoamer
In the fermentation tank of biopharmaceuticals, the effective volume of foam decreases by 2.3% when the height of foam increases by 1cm. Traditional defoamers often have a cycle problem of "defoaming and re foaming", while modified silicone oil has developed nanoscale defoaming particles with a particle size of only 50nm by introducing polyether segments.
This structural innovation has increased the defoaming efficiency by three times: when the thickness of foam film drops to 100nm, silicone oil particles can instantly penetrate the interfacial tension layer, reducing the defoaming time from 3.2 seconds to 0.8 seconds. On Merck's insulin production line, the use of a new silicone oil defoamer shortened the fermentation cycle by 18% and increased product purity by 2.1 percentage points. What's more striking is that by controlling the molecular weight distribution of silicone oil, precise regulation of defoaming persistence can be achieved - in the papermaking white water system, a single addition can maintain a 72 hour foam free state.
